Published In the Soup Thanks to Hope

Some of you know I’m a fan of Hope Clark and her Total Funds for Writers newsletter. That’s where I heard about Chicken Soup for the Soul‘s short deadline call for submissions about Christmas stories back in 2010.

I’d never submitted to Chicken Soup but wanted to be published by them. I dusted off an unpublished story marking time on my hard disk and, after one more edit, off it went.

Not only did they accept that story, they published it in two special hardback Christmas books. That marked two firsts for me: first time in Chicken Soup and first time in a hardback. Later, they published it a third time in a paperback. My stories have now appeared in seven Chicken Soup books. If I had not read about that first opportunity in her newsletter, I might have submitted to Chicken Soup at a later time but her listing nudged me into doing it sooner.

On Nov. 1, she’s raising the price of  her paid newsletter, but if you buy one of her books (print or e-Book) you get a year’s subscription free. Even if you don’t buy a book, her Total Funds for Writers newsletter is only $15 until Nov. 1.
