After years of managing projects, developing software, and occasionally writing user manuals as both an employee and an independent consultant, I decided to get creative in a different way.
While cruising and telecommuting on my sailboat for six years, I transitioned into a writer of nonfiction articles about interesting places, events, and people. Now a landlubber and kayaker in North Carolina, I’m working on a novel about young Czechs who immigrate to Nebraska in 1911.
I also write flash fiction and essays on the writing life. Spare time activities include reading (of course!), horsebackriding, and taking long walks, preferably near salt water.
I have received awards for both creative nonfiction and flash fiction. Below are some recent efforts.
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Think Positive includes my “The Winds of Change” about a bad experience that gave me the push I needed to take the helm of my own sailboat. Great cover!
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Merry Christmas! 101 stories about Christmas and Hanukkah. One of them is my “Christmas Afloat” about my first Christmas living aboard my sailboat in Beaufort, North Carolina.
